Caregiving Soul

Deep within many caregivers is the ability to give and see the ways we can help. It is something we develop over time. This is the caregiving soul.

It is the ability to give care that nourishes and can burn us.  Nourishing because we receive joy and a sense of accomplishment. We also like to hear the occasional thank you or you are doing great but often we need to cheer ourselves.

The burning part of caregiving comes when we have overdone and extended ourselves. When we move beyond the scope of what we need to do. As caregiver's we are vulnerable to over doing. And burn out is a all to common reality for all of us - This is why you will need some sunshine skills.

What are sunshine skill? Some examples-

A few people who you can call/text to remind you of your beauty.

Activities that lift you up.

Words of affirmation.

Music that brings you joy

Exercise

Hobbies

Letting the sunshine in helps your caregiving soul receive a respite and expands your ability to love. The key is using a bit of each day to let some sunshine in.

Take good care!
