Slug

I was on my way into church last Sunday and noticed a slug who was also on his way in. He seemed rather intent on getting in and yet was still a ways off. I watched him for a few minutes and thought about slugs in general unappreciated group of creatures who although are interesting to look at, appear to have no purpose. Yet they have many purposes most of which have to do with cleaning up the environment of dead decaying leaves etc. More interesting though is their slime. They leave a layer of slime when they walk because they are mostly made of water. The slime is a way other slugs can find a path to later mate, or perhaps find the latest fungus. This slime is interesting to me because of what it helps other slugs to do.
In the church we have some slugs as well. Those who have chosen to follow the slime to the death and destruction this world has to offer. You see all of us have a slug in us. A part of us which wants to go down the dark path and hang around the dead decaying things. Feasting on them until we are ill, filled with contempt sadness, hate and if we are not too careful we will be there until we die. Because we like the stench of it and have grown use to the steady diet of it we do not know that there is another choice - Choosing instead to follow Christ's example.

Jesus came and showed us how to live a life worth living. One that if we choose to follow his path leads to life, hope and love. No this path is not easy as it requires us to sometime go down scary paths of unknown outcomes. And worse yet there are slugs along the way which want to bring us down back to the ideas of death war and destruction. But if we listen to what Paul told us which is first remember our earthly bodies want to naturally sin. (Romans 3:23 for all have sin and come short of the glory of God). Quite simply it seems easier to be slimy it is our natural selves. But if we choose life in Jesus Christ and confess our sin, let go of unforgiveness of others and allow God to show us the way down the right path. Our lives will having meaning, love and hope for we can be justified through Jesus Christ - grace. I pray that you find that path today and know the hope of Jesus Christ.
Love,
A reform Slug :)
